The 3 ENCOR scenarios in the pack, each a live network with one hidden fault. How they work.

CCNP ENCOR 350-401 is hard: a professional-level exam that revisits CCNA subjects in more depth and adds architecture (SD-WAN, SD-Access) and a 15% automation and AI domain, with no going back and no published passing score. Plan on roughly 150-250 hours with a recent CCNA and some enterprise experience. On full-length FigigExams practice papers (a provisional sample of 3 candidates), Infrastructure cost the most marks and Automation and AI had the lowest accuracy.Compiled 12 October 2026 by FigigExams; practice data 22-31 August 2026.

Where the numbers come from: the domain figures are measured on FigigExams practice papers from a small, provisional sample, not on Cisco's exam. Study-hour ranges are planning estimates.

What makes ENCOR hard

  1. Depth beyond the CCNA. The same subjects return one level down: how CEF actually forwards, why an HSRP group elects the wrong router, how BGP chooses a path, what separates LISP from VXLAN.
  2. Architecture as well as configuration. SD-WAN and SD-Access, fabric designs and virtualization are tested as design choices, not just commands.
  3. Automation and AI. A full 15% domain: reading Python and JSON, REST APIs, NETCONF, RESTCONF and gNMI, and where AI fits in operations. Engineers who never script find it the least familiar.
  4. No going back, no published bar. As on every Cisco exam you cannot revisit a question, and Cisco publishes neither the question count nor the passing score.

Topic guides for the parts candidates ask about most: CEF vs process switching, HSRP troubleshooting, SD-WAN vs SD-Access and NETCONF, RESTCONF and gNMI.

Which ENCOR domains are hardest (provisional data)

Measured across 1,422 domain-tagged answers on full-length FigigExams ENCOR papers between 22 and 31 August 2026. These come from only 3 candidates, so treat the ranking as provisional. Weighted shortfall is the domain's exam weight multiplied by the share of its questions answered wrong.

Automation and Artificial Intelligence has the lowest accuracy (66.9%), but Infrastructure costs the most marks because it carries 30% of the exam. The same pattern holds in CCNA and Security+: the weakest domain is not the costliest one. Method: where candidates lose marks.

How to tell you are ready

  • Unseen papers, not repeats. Clear the bar on full-length papers you have not met.
  • Infrastructure first. At 30% it decides the exam.
  • Automation you can read. You do not need to write Python, but you must read a script, a JSON payload and an API call without guessing.

Frequently asked questions about ENCOR difficulty

Is CCNP ENCOR hard?

Yes. It is a professional-level exam that revisits CCNA subjects in more depth and adds architecture (SD-WAN, SD-Access, fabric designs) and a 15% automation and AI domain. Most candidates with a recent CCNA and some enterprise experience need 150-250 hours of study.

How long does it take to study for ENCOR?

Roughly 250-350 hours without a solid CCNA base, 150-250 with a recent CCNA and 1-2 years on enterprise networks, and 100-150 with 3-5 years of enterprise experience. These are planning ranges, not a measured statistic.

Is ENCOR harder than the CCNA?

Yes. ENCOR expects you to explain, design and troubleshoot, not just configure, and its automation domain is larger. Cisco positions it for engineers with three to five years of experience.

What is the hardest part of ENCOR?

On full-length FigigExams papers in August 2026 (a provisional sample of 3 candidates), Automation and Artificial Intelligence had the lowest accuracy at 66.9%, while Infrastructure cost the most marks because it carries 30% of the exam.

Can I take ENCOR without a CCNA?

Yes. Cisco has no formal prerequisite for ENCOR, though most candidates take the CCNA first because ENCOR assumes CCNA-level knowledge.
