Why a bank you have already worked cannot measure you
Dion Training publishes its own Security+ practice tests alongside the course, and they are well regarded. That creates a specific problem that has nothing to do with quality: once you have worked through a bank, you cannot use it to measure yourself again.
The second time you see an item you are partly recalling your previous answer rather than reasoning from knowledge. Scores climb, and the climb is real practice effect - but it is contaminated as a measurement. This is the single most common way candidates talk themselves into booking too early: three passes through a familiar bank, scores rising each time, and no idea how much of the rise is learning versus recognition.
The fix is not a better bank, it is an unseen one. A fresh full-length paper you have never met, sat once under time, is worth more as a readiness signal than a fourth run at material you have half-memorised. That is the job this page is for.
Where Security+ candidates actually lose marks
Across 1,080 domain-tagged Security+ SY0-701 answers from 12 candidates, the costliest domain was Security Operations. At 28% it is the heaviest domain CompTIA publishes for SY0-701, so even a solid 80.7% accuracy left 5.4 points of the real exam at risk - more than the genuinely weak 75.0% in Security Program Management and Oversight, which cost 5.0.

Two things follow for someone coming off a course. First, Security Operations is where your revision hours should go by default - it is 28% of the exam, so it stays the most expensive domain even when your percentage there is respectable. Second, Security Program Management and Oversight is the domain most often under-studied: it is the governance, risk and compliance material, and candidates from a hands-on background reliably treat it as reading rather than studying. It was the weakest domain in our sample at 75.0%.

Performance-based questions are where a fresh bank matters most
Security+ opens with performance-based questions, and they are the items candidates most often recall rather than re-solve. A PBQ you have seen before is not a test of anything - you remember the answer shape. A PBQ you have not seen tests whether you can actually read a log, build a firewall rule set, or map controls to a scenario under time pressure.

Security+ sits in the middle of the CompTIA ladder
None of these are formal prerequisites - you can sit Security+ without A+ or Network+ - but the ladder reflects how the material stacks.
